چکیده

The container pre-marshaling problem (PMP) is an important optimization problem that arises in terminals where containers are stacked in bays before they are collected by vessels. However, if a due container is stacked underneath other containers, it is blocked, and additional relocations are necessary to retrieve the container from the bay, which can cause significantly delays. To avoid this effect, the PMP is concerned with finding a minimal number of container movements that result in a container bay without blocked containers. In this paper, we introduce a Constraint Programming (CP) formulation of the PMP and propose a specialized search heuristic that attempts to try out the most promising moves first. Furthermore, we present a robust variant of the problem that considers the uncertainty of the arrival time of collecting vessels. We show how the robust PMP can be very naturally formulated using CP and give some preliminary results in an experimental evaluation.

Performance Improvement through a Marshaling Yard Storage Area in a Container Port Using Optimization via Simulation Technique (Case Study at Shahid Rajaee Container Port)

Container ports have been faced under increasing development during last 10 years. In such systems, the container transportation system has the most important effect on the total system. Therefore, there is a continuous need for the optimal use of equipment and facilities in the ports. Regarding the several complicated structure and activities in container ports, this paper evaluates and compar...

Simulation of container operations in the marshaling yard – case study: Aprin station

In this project, an attempt has been made to investigate the loading/unloading operations for container loads on a at the Aprin station with a simulation approach. Simulation is an approximate imitation of the operation of a process or system whose performance is examined over time. In this study, Aprin station was selected as the largest railway station for container transport in Iran. To find...

Scheduling Single-Load and Multi-Load AGVs in Container Terminals

In this paper, three solutions for scheduling problem of the Single-Load and Multi-Load Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) in Container Terminals are proposed. The problem is formulated as Constraint Satisfaction and Optimization. When capacity of the vehicles is one container, the problem is a minimum cost flow model. This model is solved by the highest performance Algorithm, i.e. Network Simple...

Yard crane scheduling in port container terminals using genetic algorithm

Yard crane is an important resource in container terminals. Efficient utilization of the yard crane significantly improves the productivity and the profitability of the container terminal. This paper presents a mixed integer programming model for the yard crane scheduling problem with non- interference constraint that is NPHARD in nature. In other words, one of the most important constraints in...

An intelligent marshaling plan based on multi-positional desired layout in container yard terminals

This paper proposes a new scheduling method for a marshaling in the container yard terminal. The proposed method is derived based on Q-Learning algorithm considering the desired position of containers that are to be loaded into a ship. In the method, 3 processes can be optimized simultaneously: rearrangement order of containers, layout of containers assuring explicit transfer of container to th...
